It's time for a refresh. I'm going to take this site in a different direction. As it currently stands, I've been using this primarily as a log for current projects and to showcase my portfolio. Now I'd like to incorporate more diversity. I want to redesign not just my logo, branding, and site, but my whole life. I'd like to take you on the ride with me too.
It's been three years since I've rebranded, but my branding is actually older. Though I've been working in the arts since I was 13 (long story), I didn't have a logo until 2006. It started in college, about 5 years in. I wanted to go into corporate identity and came up with the tagline "from idea to identity". For the mark I combined a lightbulb and a thumbprint.

I loved distressed type so very, very much (still do, actually). My professors did not. In 2007, it was nixed and other tweaks to the line weights were made.
This design remained for awhile. I registered thethumbprint.com at that point. It wasn't quite my full time pseudonym at the time though. I stuck with my real name since I was just using this as a portfolio site but in 2013, I wanted a softer look and was throwing the idea of a blog around in my head. I came up with this logotype based on the (too popular) Lobster font and customized the ever living daylights out of it.
By the end of 2013, I had decided on making my first blog entry. (Nail polish. So Pinteresting.) With the new addition to the site, I started moving over to use "TheThumbprint" on all my marketing. This is the logo as of December 2013:
And here we are today.
With the new direction of the site which I'm totally over a rainbow about (moons are less cool), I've already started sketching logos, playing with color palettes, and researching new site layouts. There's so much more to come. So many surprises on the way.
I'll be going into the process of rebranding over the next few weeks. Check back every so often to play Darwin observing the design world. The evolution hasn't stopped here!
